FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. '
Tho Christchurch City Council met last evening. Present The Mayor (Mr H. Holland), and Crs. A. S. Taylor, J. R. Havward, H. G. Ell, M.P., E. Peck, D. G. Sullivan, H. F. Herbert, A. Wells, E. J. Howard, F. Burgoyne, W. Nicliolls, J. W. Beanland, P. R. Climie, A. McKellaiy J. A. Flesher, and A. Williams.' The Electric Light and Power Committee reported that it had received notification that the Public Works Department was. negotiating to take over a certain area in Riccarton, which was being supplied from the city. As the Council had a contract with the Riccarton Borough Council, the committee considered that the Department's action was a clear breach of the understanding, that was arrived at between the Department and the Council when the first for supply from Lake Coleridge was negotiated. The committee reported that it v/as sending a strong protest to the Minister through Mr E. Parry, Government hydro-elec-trical engineer. The abattoir manager reported that during Juno the" following stock had "slaughtered at the abattoir, the figures in parentheses being the number condemned Cattle 869 (5), sheep 3060 ( 20), lambs 771 (nil), pigs 940 (3), calves 204 (5). A circular letter was received from the Hastings Borough Council, asking for support s in urging upon the -Government the necessity of closely looking into the manufacture and carriage of "cement, as the Hastings Council believed it could be made available to consumers at a very much lower cost than at present prevailed. The letter was referred to the Works Committee.
