THE FALLEN AND WOUNDED.

PERSONAL NOTES Mr. J. Boag, junr., has received the following particulars of tho death of his son, Trooper J. W. Boag. Trooper Parkinson, of the C.M.R., writes: am writing these few lines in the hope they may bo some consolation to you to know the circumstances under whicn your son Jack met his death. Jack ana T had l>een in the same, section for over a year, and were great mates. _Un April 30th our squadron moved out mreserve to the infantry, under hoavy shell fire. Our horses had been handed over to he taken back, when a shell burst right in front of our troop. Jack and I were in the front, and at the actual time wero lying down < dose together, and one would have thought it would havo been impossible to get kit. The shrapnel bullet which .hit your son entered between his shoulders and lodged in his chest. Although he jwa? severely wounded he was quitocheorful, and stood it in gr eat heart. /The shock had paralvsed. his limbs, but he did not complain in any way. whatever. I saw him again just before he was taken to the clearing station, ho was quite cheerful and in very little was taken to the 66th Casualty Station m Jerusalem, .-where he died on May 2nd. It will be some, consolation to . you . ana Mrs Boag to know that yow soii is buried m Jerusalem, and not in this wilderness, "VVo axe having a cross made here, and as soon as we"move back it will be placed onlus gave, and I will have som©, photos taken, which I will forward on to you. I hope this reaches you safely. Please accost mv deepest sympathy Trooper Lyons (Records Section) also ■writes: "Long ere this yon will have had the sad»news that y™ l ™* died of wounds to-day in the €6th Oasu~ altv Clearing Station in Jerusalenu 11© had rejoined his regiment early m February, and, as yet, I havo not ceived any particulars of ment in which he was wounded for the third time. The first newsthat readied us was not encouraging. He was hit in the spine_, paralysis ensuing. It w inexpressibly sad that' a life so full of promise should be cut off m its prime. Could yon know tie universal respect for the clean-litmg. upright life, he left behind him with his comrades, I am sure you would find some solace in it, in this, your, hour of mourning. Me was one of the most popular boys in the G.Y.C., • and tho squadron mourns for him. May I extend to you my very deepest sympathy." Letters of sympathy -were .also received from Trooper Booth and Trooper Jones. The funeral of the'late Private John M. Ashworth, who died at the Featherston Camp on Friday, took place at Prebbleton yesterday. The ramamj were accorded military honours." in Rev. E Webb officiated at the graveside.
