VANCOUVER, July 13 Marshal von Hindenburg is dead. (Beuter'a Telegnuna.) (Received July 14th, 5.5 p.m.)

LONDON, July 13

Renewed unconfirmed rumours, emanating from The Haguo, assert that Marshal von Hindenburg is dead.

(Renter's Telegrams.) (Received July 14th, 11.20 p.m.)

AMSTERDAM, July 13,

The Belgian newspaper, "Les Nouvelles," states that it learns from a good sourco that Marshal von Hindanburg died as the result of a stroke, following a stormy interview with she Kaiser, at the main Headquarters on May 16th, at which differences of opinion arose as to the object of the offensive against Paris.

The above report is received sceptically in London.

The death of Marshal von Hindenburg, at the ago of 71, removes one of tho idols of the German people. Hindenburg had long been retired from active service when the war broke juc on nccount of his radical views as to warfare, but was recalled and succeeded in the first and second years of the war in gaining somo of the biggest successes won by the German arms. In August, Hindenburg took over the* personal command or the greater portion of the Teutonic line on the Eastern front, at a time when the .Russians were driving back the. Austrians with a seemingly irresistible pressure. Hindenburg exercised undisputed sway- over tte German forces. He set up a new department, distinct from the General Staff, which he named the War Office and under whose control all men and women between the ages of 16 and 60 were drafted into war work. Recent messages stated that Hindenburg was soriously ill, and there were also rumours that he was dead, German prisoners captured on the West front asserting that this was generally believed by tho German troops to be the case.
