COPPER TRAIL.
NORTH BEACH SUB-DISTRICT.
A meeting of residents of North New Brighton was held in the Life-Saving Pavilion on Saturday evening, in connexion with the Tramway Copper Trail. The Mayor (Mr F. Kibblewhitg) presided. Messrs A. S. Clarkson, J. A. Black, J. S. Hawkes, A. C. Maxwell, W. E. D. Bishop, and J. Collins attended as representatives from the executive, and thoroughly explained the arrangements made for carrying out the oopger trail < After the visitors had retired, those present formed themselves into a committee with power to add, and the following officers were elected: —Chairman, the Mayor (Mr F. Kibblewhite); vicechairman, Mr S. C. Thompson; secretaries Messrs H. S. J. Goodman and E. A.M. Leaver; treasurer, Mr W. A. Smith. The ladies present offered to hold a euchre party m aid of the fund.
Our Dunedin correspondent says that preparations are being made to enable Otago to worthily reply to Canterbury's challenge in laying a copper trail from Invercargill to Parnassus, in the interests of Red Cross work. _ A strong committee of influential citizens has been appointed to carry out the arrangements. Preliminary meetings are to be held to draw up an effectivo scheme to raise the required £407,000.
