HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
The committee of. the Canterbury Horticultural Society met on Thursday, Mr F. C. Raphael presiding. Correspondence was received from his Excellency the GovernorGeneral, accepting the position of patron of the society. The decision of the arbitrator in the dispute over the Timbrell Cup was received. It wae dccidcd to accept the decision of Mr Bailey and pay Mr Hoggan the 6um of £3 3s in lieu of the cup. A vota of thanks was pa&wl to Mr Bailey and Meraro ■ George Harper, Son, and Pasco© for (riving their services gratuitously in connexion with tho dispute. The result of the essay competition ic connexion with tho chrysanthemum show waa received from the Mr C. T. Aachman, Principal of the Normal Training College-, hie clacines being:—Standard VI., Bessie Pollard (Addington), Ist; Hilda P*ter (East Christchurch), 2nd. Standard V.. Edio Woodward (West Christchurch), Ist; Nell Graham (Weal Christchurch). 2nd. It was decided to admit firms as members Of tho society. It wa« agreed to hold a demonstration of roso pruning at the Botanical Gardens, under the supervision of Mr J&mea Yonng, Curator.
