The report stated"The committee is also of opinion that tho question of our falling revenue stands out prominently, as does also the fact that increases have already been made in some of our dues. With tho certainty of further additional charges on goods and shipping being necessary, therefore, hinging on the subject under review, your committee thinks that power should be given to simultaneously make recommendations with a view to retrenchment. At another stage in the meeting, and for pimi ar returns, tho Board deferred the purchase of a new pilot launch. The position as defined by the Board may be summed up by the remark of one speaker, who enid:— It is evident that our local bodies in -New Zealand will have to look _ into their expenditure and go in for curtailment."
