OBITUARY

MR JOHN McKAY.

(SPECIAL TO "THE PBESB.")

DUNEDIN, July 10. • Mr John McKay, whose deatn is announced from Invercargill. had reached his 100 th year. He was born on April 18th, 1819, in Fifeshire.. Ho served an apprenticeship as an engineer, mostly in flaxmilling machinery, and came to Dunedin in 1874 in tho ship Corona. For a number of years he was in the employ of the ltoslyn Tramway Company. He moved to Invercargill about 30 years ago and remained in Southland till his death. Most of his time was taken up in constructing engineering plants for ropo works. For the Southland Fanners' Co-op. he erected tho machinery for a clothing factory and when 94 years of age he put up a binder twine plant at Winton.

AUCKLAND, July 10. Tho Rev. S. J. Serpell died at Mor rinsville.

Tho Rev. S. J. Serpell entered the Methodist ministry in Victoria in 1884, and came to New Zealand in 1891. He took up work in Auckland, and subsequently at Thameß, New Plymouth, Timaru (from 1903 to 1908), Wellington, and Masterton. He was President of the Conference in 1914. His wife predeceased him about seven years ago, and his eldest son, Dr. Serpell, N.Z.M.C., was killed in action in France last year.
