•CANTERBURY NO. 3. Ths- Second Canterbury Military Service Board sat in Cliristchurch yesterday, tho members being Messrs H. W. Bishop (chairman), M. G. Rich, and F. T. Eldridge. Lewis Witaoa Hudson. appealed for exemption, -upon the ground thai he was the only oh2ini3t.at New Brighton, ■ Tho Board rocogniscd that a chemist was required in tho district, but couM not see why another man should not be sccurcd to take .Hudson's place. The Board, after considering the matter, docided to adjourn tho appeal for a fortnight. Sine 'die- adjournments were- granted Silas Dickeon (Oamaru) (>". Z. Refrigerating Co.'c appeal), Jamas S. Wcarn (Christchmch), Thomha Howell (Belfast), Robert A..8. Kingsbury (Christchurch), and Johu Campbell (Teddington) (appeal by L. Vi'ilsun). The following, having been medically classified C 2, hid thoir appeals adjourned sine die: —Ale.v. Milliken (Dunc'Jin), He pry J.. Oates (Lyttelton), Chaa. Pooler (Belfast), Joseph H. Pratt (Chiistchurch), and L'iolic J. Keig (Sumner). Leave was granted as follows: — August 12th—Harold' Chambers- (Prebbleton). . September 9th—John David Butler (Christclnirch), Robert Thomas Roper (Chaneys). September 23rd—Geo. C. Osborn (Christchurch) (father's appeal).
November 4th—William Jackson Hughes [Chri3tchurch).
As the result of an application by his mother, the Board decided to recommend the authorities to eend Jamee Bourk (on service) home on fur lon gh for four weeks. An application by Wm. John Dunlop (Christchuroh), a religious objector, for a re-hearing was refused.
Henry ELlman (Christchmch),. a religious objector, said he waa prepared to eerve in a hospital ship, but not in the Medical Corps generally. The appeal wae dismissed. Walter Edward Robinson (Christchurch), another religious objector, refused t" undertake medical eervice, upon the ground that the State might break its word and give him combatant service to perform. His appeal was dismissed. It was stated that cuix-llant had joined the Church of. the Day Adventists since the outbreak of the wtr.
The following appeals were dismissed Job Osborne and Son, on behalf of Ami-rose Gallaher (Christchurch), sod Alex. Hamilton (Tai Tapu).
The appeal of Statham Eerrison (Christchurch) was adjourned till October.
The appeal of the Canterbury Engineering Co. on behalf of Geo. A. Malaquin (New Brighten) -was referred to the Efficiency Board.
The appeal of John McCosker (Riverside) was further referred to the Efficiency Board for report. The appeal of Albert Edward Dobbie (Christchurch) was dismissed.
