CHRISTCHURCH PRESBYTERY.
' MONTHLY MEETING. Tho Christchurch Preebytery met yesterday morning. Present—Rev. A. D. Kirkland (Moderator), Rev 6. Dr. Erwin, A. T. Thompson, T. McDonald, G. G. Howes, A. Laiehley, E. W. Walker, J. C. Paterson, W. T. Todd, D*. I>. Rodger, W. H. Howes, F. Rule, John Dickson, N. McCaJlum, N. O. White, J. Watt, G. Lindsay, and Chas. Murray (clerk), and Messrs J. Sutherland, R. J. Corbett, J. C. Mitchell, James Reid, J. S. Tulloch, J. P. W. Leo, and T. Sagar, J. M. Bickerstaff, W. J. Sinclair. J. Lang, G. Jackson, and J. Tennent. The Rev. D. D. Rodger reported that a unanimous call had been extended to the Rev. Neil Oliver White, to tako over the new charge at Riccailon. The call was sustained by the Presbytery. It was decided that the induction should be hold on July 16th, the Rev. J. Walker to preach the service, the Rev. A. T. Thompson to address the congregation, and tho Rev. Dr. Erwin to address the minister. The Rev. F. Rule reported that there was £1000 in hand tov.--rds the n™ children's* home at Timaxu. "Were it not for the snow in Ihe back country the committee would have had the ncccesary £3000 in hand by November, when the home would be opened on a date to coincide with the meeting of the Assembly in Christchurch. The resignation of the chaplaincy of St. Andrew's College bv the Rev. A. T. Thompson was accepted with regret. Mr Thompson also, resigned his 6oat on tho College Board of Governor®. ( The announcement of the Rev. J. Paterson, that the New Brighton Bible Class room had been opened free of debt, was received with applause. • The Rsv. C. Murray brought up the question of the prohibition movement along the ; lines of the Efficiency Board's proposals. He wished to know whether the Presbytery was taking action in connexion with tho meeting to be on Thursday. The Rev. John Paterson said that if the Dominion could settle the whole li"uor Question satisfactorily- bv paying compensation amounting to £4,500,000, it would be wise for the Government to do so, for, from what he could see, there was a strong public feeling in favour of settling the matter. Mr Paterson answered- a number of oucetions. Tho Presbvtery decided not to move for tho present in the matter of the meeting.
