A BATTLEFIELD SOUVENIR.
(FBOM OUR OWN COKHESrOKDEKT.'i LONDON, May 28. •\n echo of the battle of the Somme in September, 1916, when the New Zealand Division captured Flers, comes to light this week. ■ Immediately on the right of the New Zcalandeis wero the King sju-oyal Rifles, and as a member of the N.Z.E.F. was returning he found lying beside the dead bodv of a rifleman a Testament. This he picked up and put in his bag. He has since returned to New Zealand, and one of his first acts on regaining his memory was to despatch the Testament to the mother of the dead soldier. Mrs C. Hollings, Bowman street, Sandal, Wakefield. Inside tho book was written: "If anything happens to me, please send this to my dear mother. ..." . VMrs Hotlines has received the Testament, carefully packed in a little tin box, with an accompanying letter, in which tho writer states how he came to find it, and adds: "My deep regret is that owing to a severe illness I have not been permitted to open the book socner, as I only regained my memory a short time ago. I # hope I have carried out your son's wish as soon as possible."
