Mr and Mrs W. H. Williams, of 8 Byron street, Sydenham,, have received advice from the Defence Minister, fcir Jas. Allen, thit their second sou, Private W. H. ■ Williams, who was posted as missing, has now been declared killed in action in France, on January 7th last. The late Private Williams was for many years employed as a comnositor in che jobbing department "The Press" office. He was a first-class tradesman, and his death w ll! be regretted by a great many friends. His letters from tho front lmd always bee very cheerful, and no matter what he bad been through, he always wound up by saying- ' It's all in the game. Mrs E. Gricbol, of Oboka, whose son was killed in action on April sth, has received a letter from the Rev. G I. Robson, Chaplain to the Forces, statjncr that on the day in question the Germans put over a very heavy barrage, during which Private Gnebol was killed instantly. Ho was buried two days later near Beaumont-Hamel. The funeral of the late Private J. F. Limn took place at Wanganui, on Thursday, the remains being accorded full military honours. The deceased ■was for some years stud manager at Stonyhurst, and later at Waikanae. Mrs Algar Williams has received cabled advice to the. effect that her husband, who recently had an operation on his knee at Brockenhurst Hospital, ts reported "Doing well."

He took part in several engagements, and contracted trench foot, and hnaily trench fever, having just recently returned to . the firing-line, after convalescence. He was a iarmer by occu. ation, and worked on his father's fai mat, Min a since the opening of the Cheviot Settlement, but was farming on his own account at Uoilestoi. a' the time of his enlistment. Rifleman Haughey earned the respect of all who knew him,- and hia death will be mourned by a large circle of friends.
