Reports from the north about Collector are to the effect that the winner of the Napier Steeplechase is suffering from a cold.

Wellington sporting writers are of the opinion that Crib is gone in the wind. The St. gelding always did make a noise when going slow, but his performances to date show that it has never-interfered with him. However,- be may be getting worse as hi gets older.

j Golden Glade has broken down, j W. McDonald is looking after Sylva's preparation while P. T. Hogan is away at the Wellington Winter Meeting.

Lysnar, of Gisborne, having purchased the. gelding from his breeder, Mr P. P. "Neaglo. The price paid is said to be "400 guineas. It is on the. bards that his new owner will send Diavolo across to Australia to compete m steeplechases there.

Volo will not be a starter either day at Trentham, but if the weight suits he will be a runner m the Winter Cup at Riccarton next month:

Taunaha, one of G. Jones's pupils at Greenmeaaows, met with bad luck* the other day, the colt coming down on the road and . severely damaging his knees. It is a misfortune for his owner, Mr *VV. Richmond, who recently gave 600 guineas for him to J. Munn, who had the colt left to him as a legacy from the late Mr W. J. Douglas. Taunaha had been showing a lot of promise of late, and it had Deen decided to take him to the Commonwealth later on to contest some of the big events there. Taunaha is a rifeing three-year-old son of Demosthenes and Mangaoroa.

D. Moraghan, the Auckland trainer, las' a big string of coming two-year-olds in his stable. They are -mostly Australian' bred.

AJthough it ,was announced a little "time ago that Mr W. R. Kemball had purchased Impediment, the deal was not concluded.

(Bt "Searchlight.") Several local stables are likely to be represented in the Washdyke Handicap at the South Canterbury Hunt dub Steeplechase Meeting. Norval King has been reoommissioned by J. McDermott after a lengthy spell. At present the sonVif Norval is being hacked about the roads.

The pacing gelding Nihilist, by Four Chimes, from Woodroof, arrived from the south on Saturday, and has gone into A. Fleming's 6table.

Seychelles has joined S. M. August's team at Islington, and along with Wooddrift and Dimness is being prepaied for the Metropolitan Meeting.

The' annual conference of representatives of trotting clubs will be held in Wellington to-day. The principal business is the consideration of the proposed new Rules of Trotting.
