Dealing with, the question ofthe smaller oountfy schools, in a circular • to school committees, in the Wairarapa ' district, Mr A. W. Hogg, of ton, says:—"Tho position<\.of a ' good ' many -of the smaller schools in. ,'tho country is unsatisfactory, anddemands | attention. The qualification ofyoung teachers who pass their examinations, and spend a year or two in the Train? ing College, cannot be challenged. Instead of that the weak schools are a temporary, training ground _ for weak teachers. Strong teachers will not look at them. Salaries of £110 or £120, are not good, enough.
