RACING AND TROTTING NOTES.
(BY "Looker-0*.") P. T. Hogan left for Wellington by last night's ferry steamer with Zarkoma, Giralda, and Fleetham. J. Stewart was on the courso yesterdav with Minesweeper, Point Blank, and Turehaua. The first-named pair are to be tried over the hurdles while they are at Riccarton. Vascular, Moorabbe, Naupata, and Tip Up aro booked to leave for Trenthem on Monday evening. F. Ellis, C. Emerson, F Porter, J. Campbell, and L. Hagerty have all got riding engagements at the Wellington Winter Meeting
F D Jones has decided not to take Charley north, as tho Charlemagne 11. gelding is too backward.
The Orari trainer, S. Trilford, has taken Crib, Master Hamilton, and Golden Prince up to compete at the "Wellington Winter Meeting.
In consequence of the wires being down, nominations for the South Canterbury Hunt Meeting havo been postponed till noon on Monday. Some of the local and visitmg horses were jumped at Jrentham on Wednesday morning. Moddite acted as schoolmaster ior Meltchikoff, -but the latter showed a dislike for the business. Coalition gave a good exhibition over tho big fences, and Sea clown jumped the schooling hurdles safely.
E. J. Rae is now training the horses belc ngi.ng to Mr Machell, that were formerly in the stable of A. M. Robertson, who has retired from the business. The Auckland trainer was amongst the curliest arrivals ut Trentham, with Meltchikoff, Moddite, and Notability. The last-named is a three-year-old by Sarto —Noblesso. Hp competed at the last Avondale Meeting, and is to run in the Trial Plate at Trentham.
A. J. Shearsby has arrived at Trentham with Nita, Reformation, Yellow and Black, and Sleight of Hand. These horses have all racing recently, and should be in good form for the nest week's Meeting. Mr Frank Armstrong is still an inmate of a private hospital at Hastings, and will not be well enough to attend the Wellington Meeting.
(Br "Searchlight.") A. Gallaghe.- has sold the pacing gelding Look Out to Mr J. R. Blackie, of Riccarton, and intends retiring from the light harness sport until after the war.
The local sportsman, Mr M. Kennington, has decided to give his horses a lengthy spell
During the next few days R. McMillan intends taking in hand a promising three-year-old filly by Brent Locanda from the dam of 'Cello Sydney Wilkes. She is a natural pacer.
