Tho monthly meeting of the Ashbuiipn *,r County Council waa held yesterday. Present —Messrs J. Cairns (chairman), H. J. Harrison, W. T. Lill, C. Raid, W. Goodwin, A. DninJmond. ~ . . i Prior' to ' tho ordinary '' busineda , betas taken, the following motion'waa carried:— "That .the Council deeply, regrets tho death vm of Mrs Loohheod, wife of the'present member ; > of tho Mount Somore Ridine. and tendon sincere sympathy to Mr Lochhead and family .. in their loss." _ • . .' Tho Engineer reported that the lessee of the Mount Sowers Tramway hod applied, asking the Council to assist in clearing the tramway of snow. The application ptas declined. A circular letter was read ' from tho Whangarei County Council .drawing attcn- . tion to tho unsuitable class, of land the Go- i vernmont : was purchasing for returned ■ sol- - diets. It waa decided to endorse the protest - of tho . Whangarei County Council. A sum of £20 was granted to the Society for tho Health of Women and Children.
