The Christ church Domain Board mot yesterday afternoon, Mr H. J, l&swick presiding. ■
Tho chairman was given authority to sign an agreement engaging the services of Mr J. Young, tho Curator, for a further five years.
x statement regarding the potato-growing enterprise 6howcd receipts £104 193 Bd, expenditure £192 15s 4d, cr. balance £211 4a 4d. Against tho credit , balance would havo to be put tho cost of relaying tho ground employed.
The Sports Grounds Committee reported that it had defined tho proposed areas for motor-cara and motor-bicycles in the Parks .as follows:—liiccarton entrance to tho North Hagley Park, 100 yards to left of entrance; United Bowling Club, to pavilion from Riccarton road only; cricket grounds, South Hagley Park, tho whole frontage to tho Riccarton road between the two entrances; Hospital Corner, South Hagley Park, 80 yards cither side of the entrance; Polo Ground. South Hagley Park, 100 yards to tho left of the entrance. The report was adopted. A deputation representing the Canterbury Cricket and Hockey Associations waited on tho Board with a view to securing a ground by tho Hospital Corner, tho idea being 4 o promote the formation of a Boya' Cricket League. The two Associations asked that tho ground be handed over to the joint control of tho Associations, rent frtfo, for two yeajrs; (2) that the ground ho fenoed to keop out stock; (3) that a deep well 1» sunk; (4) that the ground ho put in fair order; (5) that tho rental bs fixed now which would be chargcd at the end of two years. After tho deputation had explained its views and withdrawn, tho Board discussed the matter.
Mr H. Holland said tho Associations might b« allowed to have tho ground for on/3 year rent free. He thought the Board could not legally make an arrangement for two years. Mr Walter moved, .in 1 Mr Wineor secondH, that tho deputation's requests bo granted.
It was finally decided that tho Board would give tho ground rent free for one year fence tho ground and put down a- well, provided a responsible organisation was formed, to take charge of the ground.
