DEATH OF LORD RHONDDA.
HEART FAILURE THE CAWSEJ. (By Cablo.—Freu Association.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (By Wireless.) LONDON, July 3. The death is announced ot Lord Rhondda (Food Controller). Heart failure was the cause of death. The late Lord Rhondda (David A. Thomas, "the British Coal King") was born in Aberdare in 1856. He was educated at Caius College, Cambridge, and was a Scholar of Jesus and Cains Colleges. Ho was President of the South Wales Liberal Federation, 189397; M.P. for Merthyr "Burghs, 18881910; for Cardiff, 1910. He was President of the Local Government Board, 1916-17. In 1917 Lord Rhondda succeeded Lord Devonport as Food Controller. TRIBUTE IN HOUSE OF COMMONS. (Reuter'a Telegrams.) ' (Received July 4th, 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 3. In the House of Commons Mr Bonar Law and Mr Asquith paid .warm tributes to Lord Rhondda's services. Mr Bonar Law mentioned that the disease from which Lord Rhondda died originated from exposure on the occasion of the sinking of the Lusitania. The Prime Minister telegraphed to . Lady Rhondda, saying, "Lord Rhondda gave his- life for his country." LORD RHONDDA'S SUOCSSOR. ("The Times.") (Roceived July 4th, 10.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 3. It is understood that Mr J. R. Clynes will succeed Lord Rhondda. Mr dynes is Under-Secretary to the Ministry of Food Control.
