In the early stages of the wnr. Mr Bomont was wireless operator in the Talune, and he was subsequently engaged on various intercolonial steamers and vessels trading between Sydney ant/. Brisbane.

The following motion was carried at a meeting of the Seamen's Union, at Wellington, on Monday night: 'That this meeting of seamen regrets the unfortunate disaster to tho Wimmera, involving loss of life and extreme hardships to others of tho crew and passengers, and respectfully tenders the. relatives of thfe deceased the sincere sympathy and condolence* of the organised seamen." \ Huddait, Parker, and Co. have given £1000 to the Wimmera Relief Fund.
