Furthermore, the fact that a military guard bad not been stationed at the barricade pave him for assuming that a guard at the vessel's gangway would be | The Magistrate remarked that the breach had evidently been committed through a misi understanding of the war regulations, and a nominal fine would meet the case. Accused was fined 10b and coets. Jvncs Norton (Mr Beswick) was charged with failing to maintain his stepson in the Kelson Receiving Home, the arreaio on a maintenance order previously made against defendant amounting to £21 7a 6d. The Magistrate cancelled the arrears, but decided to allow the present order for 5s a week to continue for another two months, after which time the caao would be reviewed. Judgment by default was given in the following cases:—Lyttelton Casual Workers' Union v. Charles Chinnery, £1 14s; Lyttollon Borough' Council v. Percy Nelson £klen, £3; Frederick Lewis Gilray, £3 10s; Mary Ann Haydon, £3 2s 7d; James R.. Whitford, £6 Is lOd; James McKenzio, 19s. THE POST OFFICE. Extensive structural alterations are being effected in the Lyttolton Post Office, that portion of the building previously occupied by the Customs having 'been vacated. The internal arrangements for handling mail matter and conducting general business will consequently bo greatly improved. PERSONAL. Mr "W. Kadcliffo, ex-Mayor of Lyttelton, has reoeived.advico from the Rov. J. Luxford that his son, Private Basil Kadcliffe, who was severely wounded in the head while fighting in France about two months ago, ,is malting favourable progress towards recovery in the Walton-on-Thames Hospital, and has now been pronounced out of danger.
