THE FALLEN AND WOUNDED. PERSONAL NOTES Sapper Dan Flanagan (died of wounds) was the third son of Mr and Mrs D. Flanagan, of Doyleston, and at one time a noted cycle rider. Sapper Flanagan enlisted in the early days of the war, but owing to an over supply of recruits offering for the Tnnnelling Corps, he was obliged to put oflT training. After waiting some considerable time, he received orders to report, and entered camp on January 4th, 1917, leaving the Dominion early in Febniary. About three months after arriving in France he was gassed. He took part in the big offensive, which began in March. Between March 27th and 30th he was gassed and taken to hospital, and after three weeks was able to write a cheerful letter home, but a few days later was reported dangerously ill. and died on May Bth. Previous to enlistment he had been engaged in farm work at Nukumaru, North Island. HoTias two brothers on active service. MrsO. B. Bartrnm. Hathefley, Cashmere Hills, has received information that her husband, Mr Oswald Bartrum, of Puke-tohu, Fairlie, will return at an. early date. He has been severely •wounded in the left eye. He left with the 28th Draft in July, 1917. Mr Bartrnm's brother, Cyril, was killed in action. Mrs Edgier, John street, Temuka, lias receivd word that.her son, Private W. A. Edgier, is returning to New Zealand. Advice has been received <by Mr J • Tyson, of Springston, that his second son. Private W, H. Tyson, has again been admitted to a hospital in France suffering from pleurisy. This is the second, attack he .has had during the past three months, and before that he had a bad attack of bronchitis. He left, with the 25th Reinforcements, and uv) to the time of going into camp was working on his father's farm.

Mr Charles Jones received advice yesterday that his son, Lieut. E. A. R. Jones, has been discharged from hospital in England, having recovered from wounds received last Easter,
