THE COAL SHORTAGE
POSITION IN OTAGO. , (SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.") DUNEDIN, July 3. Following the example of the North, a Coal Committee has been set up in Otago. Tho delivery of coal to any person in quantities one ton at .1 time is not allowed a permit from the committee, and for householders bituminous coals must not be sold at all, except with brown or lignite coals in the proportion of one bag of bituminous to three bags of the others. Otago is more fortunate than any other district in regard to coal, having plenty of soft coal handy, but from a semi-official statement issued, it Is gathered that it is the desire of the Minister that Otago shall help Canterbury and send as much as possible to that district.
