LOSS OF THE WIMMERA.
* , V SEAECH FOR SURVIVORS. (PRESS association telegram.) AUCKLAND, July 1. Constables Calwell and 'I'hornell, oi Kaitaia and Houhora, report that this morning, from Te Pahi Station, they, with the assistance of Maoris and settlers, thoroughly searched the coast from, North Capo to Cape Maria van Diem'en, without any result. Captain Wilson, of the steamer VVaitotahi, reports having picked up a Bpar and a board. The settlers and Natives have returned to their homes, the hope or discovering any more survivors having been abandoned. The Waitotahi has returned to Parenga, and relinquished the search. FEELING AROUSED IN GISBORNE. (FBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) GISBORNE, July 1. The Wimmera disaster has aroused great agitation- here against enemy aliens. The Borough Council propose to discuss the matter to-morrow night, when a resolution will be proposed calling on the Government to intern enemy subjects and inviting other local bodies to support the local demands. The Marine Department has instncted the Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Auckland to hold a f>reliininary enquiry concerning -.he OS3 of the Wimmera. The evidence is to be forwarded to the Marine Department, and it will be decided then whether j,t will be auvisablo to hold anv further enquiry.
