VALEDICTORY.

PRESEXTATION TO MR W T WARD. ' ' There was a large attendance of members of the Christchurch Postal and Telegraph staffs in the mail room of the Christchurch Post Office yesterday afternoon, to bid farewell to Sir W. T. Ward, who is retiring from the Postai Service after many years' connexion with it, the last three of which have been spent by him as Chief Postmaster at Christchurch.

Mr J. G. Itule, assistant Postmaster, who presided, assured Mr Ward that there was not one officer in the Christchurch postal district who did not hold him in tho greatest respect and esteem. Personally, he had been connected with Mr Ward in the Christchurch bffico for three years, and he could say without a shadow of doubt that they had not had a single word of disagreement. He had never received greater courtesy and consideration from any postmaster'than he had from Mr Ward. Mr Ward, he believed, had had 48 years of service, and retired quite a young man, and they all hoped he would be spared for many years. On behalf of the staff Mr Rule presented Mr Ward with two Morris chairs. .

Other officials paid their tribute to Mr Ward's worth, and Mr Ward suitably replied, stating that he was leaving tho service after three very happy years in the Christchurch office.
