The Hon. T. M. Wilford, Minister of Justice, passed through Christchurch last night on his way to Wellington. Mr W. McDonald, Minister of Agriculture, has announced that Dr. C. J. Reakes (Director of tho Live Stock Division) has been appointed Director-General of Agriculture. The position of Mr F. S. Pope (who ha s been the chief Departmental head as pecretary) would be Assistant-Director-Gene-ral. _ The funeral of tho late Mr A H. Turnbull took place at Wellington on Sunday morning. Although the interment (which took place at the Bolton street Cemetery) was nrivatg, the wide esteem in which tho fate Mr Turnbull was held was indicated by tho largo number present, tvhich-included several representatives of tho sta* of the old firm ./Messrs W. and G. "urnbull and Co.), and many of the heads of other prominent commercial houses. Mr Robert Turnbull, brother of the doceased, was tho chief mourner.
