The death occurred at Dunedin, on Monday evening, of Mr William Lang Bannaiyne, in his ninety-first yoar. 'lne lloccattod. was an eugmoer, and was widely known in tho mercantile marine throughout .New Zoaland and Australia. He was one of tne pionoer chief engineers in the Union bteam Ship' Company's service, in wiiich lie had an honourable career extending over a period of 35 years. The late Mr Bannatyne was born at Dumbarton in 1827. Tho death of Bro. Jerome (Hugh J. Harrow ay), of the Marist brotners, occurred at the Colonial Hospital, Suva, i on Sunday, June l<>th. Bro. Jeronio ! was 5G years of age, and was born in Ayrshire, Scotland. He entered the Order of the Marist Brothers in Sydney in I£&4, and after tho usual period of training was sent to New Zaland, where ha remained for about 16 years. In 1901 he was transferred to Fiji, and' was attached to tho teaching staff of Na.il ilili and Cawaci. The death is announced of Colonel Windle Hill St. Hill, in Hobart, at the ago of 81 years, one of tho most famiiiar figures in Tasmania for over -10 years. Colonel St. Hill was bora in Devonshire in 1837, and was educated for the Army. He came to New Zoaland on tho staff of General Cameron, and served throughout the Maori war. He subsequently went to India with the 19th Hegiment. He went to Tasmania in the late seventies as private secretary to the late Governor Weld, and from 1878 to 1880 was Commandant of the State Forces. In 18S6 ho was elected to tho State Parliament, and sat for North Hobart until 1893. He was the first member to mention eight-hour legislation, and his name is attached first legislative movement giving effect to it. He afterwards conducted a patter, a 'nd was the compiler of the 'Tasmanian Turf Register.
