Mrs Chaffey returned yestorday from Heretaunga, where she has been staying with her sister, Miss Webster.
Mrs M. C. Craig (Oamani) is visiting Christchurch.
Mr and Mrs Howard Tripp and Miss Tripp have returned to South Canterbury.
Mr and Mrs F. Morrah (Invercargill) arc in Christchurch.
Miss isocline Bruce (Opawa) is visiting Wellington, whero sho is the guest of Mrs Freyberg.
Dr. and Mrs Paterson returned to Christchurch yesterday after a visit to Auckland and the Bay of Islands.
Given fine weather to-day, tho weekly sale in aid of the Ladv Liverpool Fund should bo very successful. Inclement weather will not, however, interfere with the sale, which is being arranged by tho city branch of the "Women s National Reserve. The goods will include many saleable articles, including sweets, cakes, flowers, and produce of many kinds.
Mrs O. F. Forbes, of this city, is visiting Timaru.

Tipperarv Oake. —Cream half a cupful o? butter with three-quarters of a cupful of brown sugar; add one teaspoonful of vanilla extract and three-quarters of a cupful of milk. Mix and sift together two teaspoonful? of cream of tartar, one teaspoonful of baiting soda, a quarter of a teaspoonful of salt, and two cupfuls of white flour; add another half a cupful of milk, and beat well. Turn into a greased and floured cake-tin, place two thin strips of candied orange or lemon peel on the top, and bake in a moderate oven for one hour.
