CANTERBURY CLUB. ' The thirty-fifth' annual meeting of tho Canterbury Bowling Club was held, on Thursday. In the obßenco of the president and vice-president," Mr M. Bamett was voted to the chair. The annual report congratulated members on the excellent etate of the western green during the past season. The eastern errecn was lowered during the end of the previous eeaeon, tho turf being used on tho fooee and banks of both greens. Both greeES now had the appearance of being in first-class order _ for tho approaching season. The committee expressed the hope that an honours board would be provided. Six members had gone to tho front, and it waa likely tuat more would go. The balance-sheet showed a balance *o credit of £12 Is 7d, and an excess of assets over liabilities of £107 11b 73. i The report and balanoe-sheet wero adopted. H Beanland pre Biding. f Tho president, in hia report, referred to the death of Mr W. Broadhurst (an ex-presi-dent) and of Mrs Bambury, one of the memf- 6rs , cr °l uet fiction. He also mentioned that three members of the club were on active service. Referenco was made to the harmony which had existed throughout the year, and the success of the club competitions. The treasurer read the balance-sheet, which showed receipts £237 8s and expenditure £219 15b lid. _ The following offioers were elected President, Mr Ha.ro.d M. NEW BRIGHTON CLUB. ' The fifth annual meeting of the New Brighton Bowling Club was held in the Club i pavilion on Thursday, Mr F. Kibblewhite presiding over a good attendance. c , The annual report gave a comprehensive resume of the club's workings during the y.fr- It cup-cially reforred to the fact that, like all othor sports bodies, the club was ' Buffering in consequence of the war by the loss of membership, and in other directions. The balance-sheet showed the club to be in a fairly good financial position. , The report and balance-sheet were adopted. On the motion of Mr J. A. Cooke, it was decided to dace the surplus of £122 3s 8d as a set-off against the green formation account of £2So 7s Bd. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr A. W. A very enjoyable evening was spent on the occasion of the presentation of prizes, Mr ,G. Good presiding. The following contrij buted to the evening's entertainment:—Mre and Mies Good, Messrs J. M. and L. Mitj chell, Mr Bracy Wilson, Messrs D. and M. ■ Spiller, Mrs J. Maddren, Hr G. Rudd, and i.Mi&s A. Harris. . Mrs Maddron presented a | hand-painted cushion for competition, which realised £2 6s 6d. Mr Bam berry secured the ; cushion, and ofiored it again far competij tion, a further £3 S3 resulting. A topical eong, sung by Mr Bracy Wilson, realised 21s, the proceeds being given to the Sydenham
Red Croes. Mr Olaf J&cobsen presented '-.ho prizes won during the eeason. ~ LINWOOD CLtJB. The tenth annual meeting of the Linwood Bowling and Croquet Club was held on Saturday night in the club's pavilion, Mr M. Kershaw presiefng over a good . The balance-sheet showed that a further reduction had been made in the club's overdraft, which now stood at • £16 12s 6d. The total receipts had been £254 8s fid. The assets showed a surplus of £136 19s Id over the liabilities. The annual report stated that the membership of the bowling section at the close of the seacon was 63, and that of the croquet section 23. In the bowling competition matches tho club had succeeded in winning tho B Section. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. . The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr J. Tho incoming dresident presented the club with three medallions for ihc winners of (ho Champion Singles and Pairs and several membsrs made a gift to the club of debentures held by them.
