OBITUARY.
A very old resident of Ashburton ( in tho person of Mr Peter McManus died on Thursday, aged 75 years. The deceased came from Elgin, Scotland, iukl arrived in- Ashburton 40 years ago. _ He followed the occupation of a cabinetmaker, and was a very skilful worker.
Mr William Kerr, Stipendiaiy Magisof Napier, died there on Saturday morning. Mr who was formerly in the Masterton district, had been suffering from heart disease for some months. He leaves a widou and one daughter. Mr_ Kerr was admitted as a barrister in Napier, and subsequently practised in various parts of the Dominion. He was for many years Crown Prosecutor in New Plymouth. He was 63 years of age.
' The death occurred on Friday, at the age of 79 y ars, of a very we-1 known and deeply respected resident of Wellington in the person of Mr W. Simm, father of Mr Simm, manager of the D.I.C. The late Mr Simm was for many years in the service of Messrs \V. and G. Turnbull, Ltd., and, by a peculiar coincidence, died on the same dav as his old chief, Mr A. H. Turnbull. Born in Scotland, the late Mr Simm came to Wellington 35 years ago, and had resided here ever since (says the "Post"). He was a very prominent bowler, a member of the Wellington Club, and he took part in the final of the New Zealand championship tournament in 1911. He was also a keen member of the Wellington Chess dub. He leaves a widow, four sons, and one daughter/who is married to the Rev. J. Wilson,' of* Tu r akin a! One _of the sons was killed at Passchendaele, one has returned to Now Zealand, and another is still at the front.
