THE SUBMARINE WAR.
(By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Australian and K.Z. Cable Association.) HALIFAX, Juno 28. The survivors of an American ship sunk by a U-boat on the Atlantic coast liavo been picked up. LONDON, June 28. Papers, found on the body of a ship's officer washed ashore on the south coast of Ireland show that the ship 'was torpedoed three hundrea miles out at sea. Thirty-five of tlie crew lived eight days. Apparently thero are no survivors. (Received Juno 30th, 5.5 pim.) HALIFAX, June 28. A boatload of shipwrecked sailors from a steamer torpedoed off the American coast have landed at a Canadian Atlantic port. They were picked up at Sea Island after drifting in a small boat for eight days. Thoy suffered great privations, including starvation and thirst. CONSTRUCTION EXCEEDS LOSSES. (Australian and K.Z. Cable Association.) (Received June 30th, 11 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 29. During May tho United States shipyards produced ships totallidg 175,334 tons gross, and British shipyards produced 197,274. Tho submarine sinkings for that period were 355,694 tons, thus the construction exceeded caa sinkings by 16,914 tons. THE ATLANILYN SUNK. (Received June 30th, 11 p.m.) NEW YORK, June 29. Private advices received in New York state that the British steamer Atlantian was torpedoed and sunk in European watets. No lives were lose. The Atlantian was a four-masted steamer of 9399 tons. She was built in 1899.
