The "Red Jersey Campaign."
We are sorry to see that tho appeal of our friends the Salvation Army for their "War Fund is not meeting with that heart}- response which they would like, and which so excellent a catisc ought to receive. Tho Army is aiming at raising £-50,000 from tho whole of New Zealand, of -which £10,000 is ect down as tho quota from Canterbury. Towards that amount only some £3580 has so far come to hand, but -we feel sure it is only neccssary to draw tho attention of our readers to the appeal to secure a substantial addition to the fund. The Army is carrying out its war work with the samo thoroughness and attention to detail which mark its other social activities. It has mastered the fine art of making money go as far as possible by tho exercise of caro and economy, so that subscribers may bo sure that money will bo laid out to good advantage. Some of the Salvation Army. -war work is no doubt on tho same lines as that of tho Y.M.C.A., to whose fund the public of Canterbury has subscribed very liberally, hut there is plenty of room for both organisations among all the millions of troops engaged in this war. Of the £50,000 which it is hoped to raiso in Xew Zealand, £15,000 is allocated to work "within tho Dominion, and £35,000 for the oversea service. The work which the Salvation Amy is doing at the camps at Trentham and Tauherenikau is very highly spoken of. A list of subscriptions already given appears in our advertising columns to-day, and wo hope that during the coming week tho hearts of the Army officers will he gladdened by a very substantial addi- I tion, bringing them within sight of the total they hope to secure.
