. EYRE. At the la-Bt meeting ox the Eyre County Council, there were preterit—Mcasrs tr. Horreil (iu iJie cliair), Kvana, Ward, Power, ana iticto. .Letters were read from the Manawatu. County Council usKmg lor support in petitioning the Uovcrnment to reinstate raco trains, on account ot damage done to roads by motor cars travelling to ruco meetings, li, was resolved to repiy that the Council could not support the petition. 'i'he Canterbury Automobile Assooi.it ion •wrote, asking for support urging tho lla.ilwuy Department to make better provision for trafno at tho Styx railway crossing. It was Tesolved to reply that there were quite a number ot railway croeeiugs iu >orth Canterbury equally as dangerous as tho Styx, and that the danger could be averted by placing the alarm bells further back from the crossing. A deputation waited on the Council ftom the Ohoka Patriotic Committee, asking it to support them in raising funds lot the Y.M.O.A. It was resolved that, should the Patriotic Committeo raise £700 within the county before April Gist. 1918, the Council would give them a subsidy of £300. It was reeolved to support the resolution of the Auckland City Council urging tho Government not to give up possession o; Samoa at the conclusion of the war. It wa» agreed that the footpaths on the Xorth road and Wiilock street, Kaiapoi, should be chipped and coated with grit before the winter. . It was reeolved that Smiths, Barkers and Mcßoberts'a road drains be cleared cut as soon as labour was availhle. F. Beker, Flax ton, waa given notice to remove wires from across the Main drain. It was agreed that, in the event of a bridge being erected at Pemn s ford, it should be not less than sixteen feet between the wheel guards It was resolTed that Mr C, H. Walker, Ohoka, bo appointed to 6ign certificates Oi ability for motor car drivers and motor cycle riders. It was decided that all persons leasing reserves from the Council as fjom year to year be given notice that the Council "will terminate their leases on March 31st, 1019. A number of applications .for electric light were referred to the Lighting Com- I mitte*.
