BOROUGH COUNCILS.
AKAROA. The fortnightly meeting of tlio Akaroa Borough Council was held on •Present—The Mayor (Mr Geo. Armstrong;, Councillors Kcrridge, I'yfe, ilunro, and Stewart. Cr. T. Lcwitt, elcctcd to the vacancy caused by the resignation of Cr. H. W. Wilkins, made the usual declaration, and took his seat. it wiis reported that Mr H. Capes, the new electrician, had taken up hie duties. The Mayor's action in having certain repairs effected at the electrician's house, was approved. The Minister of Finance wrote, asking the hearty co-operation of the. Council in supporting the new War Loan. It was unanimously decided that every effort should be made in the direction indicated. Instructions were given to sue forthwith for certain outstanding rates. The tnnder of H. 8011, at £5 per annum, for the lease of the Bccrcation Ground, was accepted. Messrs Meares and "Williams wrote, asking for a refund of a portion of the rates paid by the licensees of the Bruce and the Metropoie Hotels. Referred to the NewZealand Municipal Association's legal adviser for an opinion. The finance report showed receipts £J3 IBs sd, Electric Light Account dr. £2204 12r 8d Wharves Account cr. £279 Bs, General Account dr. JB3 2a 4d, overdraft at Bank of New Zealand £1928 7s. Cr. Lewitt was appointed a member .and chairman of the Lighting Committee.
