COUNTY COUNCILS.
SPRINGS. 1 The Springs County Council mot at Springston on Tuesday. Present—Councillors I. Andrew (chairman), Ales. Thompson, C. Wolfe, John Stalker, and W. J. McMillan. Replying to a suggestion from Springs that export advice should be obtained as to whether there was a eound enough foundation on which to construct concrete 'walls a,t Miller's, bridge, the Wairewa County Council stated that it had nominated Mr T. Quealy to represent it in the matter, and suggested that Springs should also appoint an'expert. The Council decided to ask--Mr R. Macartney to act as its represent alive. A complaint from Mr G. Greaves, Lincoln, about a water-race flooding his land, was referred to Crs. Wolfe and Thompson for a report. The Council endorsed a resolution passed by the Auckland City Council urging the retention of tho Samoan group, but no action was taken concerning the' agitation for the resumption of race trains, on which su&ject a letter and resolution were received from the Manawatu County Council. ' The following tender® for drain-cleaning were accepted:—Andrew's drain, at Is 9d chain, Colline's drain at 2s Gd, Carter's drain at 2?, Chamberlain's drain at la 9d, and Goodrick'a drain at Is 9d, J. Everest; Lake road and Doy's rood drains, — Godfrey, at Is 9d chain; Powell's drain at 2s 6d, R. G. Kimber. Tho surveyor reported that the Leeaton road ford at the Selwyn river had been opened. Road repair work had been proceeding steadily during the month, and two additional teams would shortly bo put on to help cope with tho pressure of work. Concrete abut-, ments had been constructed at Lincoln bridge, but it waa impossible to have the channels in Lincoln attended to until the spring. ~c , r ,. ^°]f e mentioned the lack of street lighting in Lincoln township and tho clerk waa instructed to wrjte tho Tai Tapu Dairv Company on the subject. On Cr. McMillan's motion it was decided to clear gorse on the ilulswc] 1 river reserve, t.o repair rute on the Willows road, and to have larr's road improved nest summer. The clerk reported that eleven summonses had been issued for the recovery of rates.
