TO WITHSTAND TORPEDOES.
A DUNEDIN INVENTION. (SPECIAL TO "THE E8153.") DUNEDIN, March 19. Captain Colin McDonald, Marine Superintendent at Dunedin for iho Union Steam Ship Co., with tho assistance of Mr Robert Constable, tho company's naval architect, has devised an invention for unsinkable ships. It is claimed that the new method of ship construction will enable a vessel to withstand several shots from torpedoes before she could be sunk, and will give a margin of 50 to 60 per cent, safety, to those on board such vessels by enabling them to leave at leisure in the ships' boats or by rescue by other vessels. There is also a probability that aid would bo received before a submarine could launch a second torpedo.
