RICDAUTON. The Riccarton Borough Council met la3t evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr 3. Brown), and Cre. W. Dalloy, H. Gudsell, H. Wise, T. J. Siokea, A. E. Stesie, and F. George. The Auckland City Council's resolution regarding the retention by the British of Samoa, was endorsed. The Mayor was appointed to represent the Council on the deputation to the Minister of Public Works regarding the completion of the Arthur's Pass tunnel. The reports of tho various committees detailing- work done in the borough since ttw last meeting were adopted. SUMNER. The Sumner Borough Council met last night. Present—The Mayor (Hon. John Barr, M.L.C.), Crs. H. C. Jamieson, 8.. j Piercy, C. Benjamin, J. H. Gibbs, T. DryI burgh, T. E. V,'bitfield, A. Senior, and W. JV ijawsori. The Finance Committee's report stated that tho gas manufactured for February amounted to 490,0J0 cubic feet, as against y!)3,010 feet for the corresponding month last year. The committee recommended that a lamp be erected at »he corner of iUrvdeu and Stoke streets. Tho receipts for February amounted to £396 5s Id, and payments to £1027 Is 10d.' The debit balance ; at the end of February was £1330 6s lid. | Tho committee also recommended that, in | tha event of the leasee of the baths making | additions to the building, such additions be insured against fire by tho Council, at the ! enst and for the benefit of the lessee. It was decided to ask the Tramway Board to paint about sis feet of the poles in Xay*and street, from the level of the footpath upwards, with white paint. Cr.
