SOLDIERS' CLUB ROOMS.
NEW PREMISES WANTED
SITES UNDER CONSIDERATION
With the number of returning soldiers increasing each month, it has been found that the present accommodation afforded by the club rooms of the Returned Soldiers' Association in Ghristcliurch is quite inadequate, and also most unsuitable as far as access, etc., is concerned. Of Jate, in consequence the Association has been moving in the direction of acquiring land and building a permanent memorial club rooms. In coming to this decision, the Association has been following the lead of other similar Associations throughout the Dominion. It is understood that the finances for the project should give little trouble, though at a later date it is intended to make a public appeal for funds.
Some littlo time ago a representative committee of citizens was 6et up to deal with the matter of a site -\nd buildings, and last evening, this committee met, there being present: Messrs H. Holland (chairman), George Harper, 0. T. J. Alpers, A. o.' Clare son, and A. Boyle. Several proposed sites were discussed, and eventually a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Harper, Alpers, N. B. McCallum, J. 8. Guthrie, and 0. "W. Green (secretary of the Association) was set up with a view to obtaining prices of properties suggested and to securing an option on any suitable site. Mr Alpers was appointed chairman of the Building Fund Committee.
