SEPARATION ALLOWANCES.
MOTHERLESS CHILDREN AND WIDOWED MOTHERS. Amended instructions regarding "-lie payment of separation allowances announced in General Orders as follows:— "Separation allowance is not payable to guardians of motherless childroil when no children's allowance :s drawn. When a child reaches the J.ge of 10 years and children's allowances eeusc, no further issues to the guardian will be made. "With reference, to the separation allowance of Is 6d a day payable Und.ucertain conditions to.widofred mothers of members of the New Zealand -'.x----poditionary Force, the present regulations under which raytnent of il>c allowance is made will iii future lo proportionately relaxed in particular cases as regards the stipulatioh of a minimum allotment of 3s a day tq the mother, where the soldier establishes that, he is uiiable to make such an allotment, or can only make a smai'.er allotment by reason of having to provide for the maintenance of his wife or other dependants. Each, case wiil be dealt with cm its own merits. "it is notified for general information that from January Ist, 1918, the New Zealand Government wi}| contribute to the wives residing in New Zealand of Imperial reservists and Imperial soldiers the difference between •Imperial afid New Zealand Expeditionary Force rates of ray for c-oivo-sponding ranks. The separation ."!- lowanco grunted by the Imperial Government will no longer be adjusted with the New Zealand grant, hut the latter will be. in . addition tlierecn. Payments will be made by the Treasury.
