THE WAIKATO RIVER.
"A NATIONAL ASSET-" (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELECEAJi.) AUCKLAND, March 15. The Hon. T. M. Wilford, Minister of Marine, who has been on a trip of inspection on the Waikato river, in an interview to-day said.he realised for the first time the unlimited possibilities of such a waterway. ''I recognise that dealings with such a national asset must be undertaken in a national way. The improvement of, the % Waikato river is not a parochial question; it is the concern of New Zealand, without any question whatever." At Mercer, Mr Wilford stated, he would invite the Minister of Lands to inspect the country adjacent to the river with the object of securing joint action regarding navigation, drainage, and other problems involved. The Minister promised to consult with the Minfster of Lands with a view to recommending Parliament to appoint a Royal Commission to go into all questions affecting river control.
