WAR RISKS.
MERCANTILE MARINE PENSIONS. A NEW ZEALAND SCHEME. (PRESS ASSOCIATION" TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, March, 10. Tho Hon. T. M. Wilford states that ho is cabling to the High Commissioner to ask how tho Imperial Mercantile marine pension scheme deals with the dependants of officers and men lost by war risks between tho time of the notification of tho loss and the receipt of the first pension payment. Tho Minister mentioned the case of" an Auckland woman whoso husband was on board tho Kabul a, which had been reported sunk. She and her children wore entitled to the British pension. The Minister added: ''Now, how is she to live from the time of tho notification of the sinking of tho ship until her husband's death is proved, and then till she receives the first pension payment? Obviously dependants must immediately be looked after, and there must be no delay in seeing that they arc carod for and helped.'" The Minister added that he hoped to have a scheme for tho payment of pensions to dependants in such cases in forco by next week, without waiting for the High Commissioner's reply.
