Honours for New Zealanders.

After considerable delay there is Tiow published the names of those New Zealand men and Women who hare been selected for appointment to the new Order, the Order of the British Empire, established last year as <1 means of recognising services rendered to the Empire. The New Zealand list 'jompriscs 01 names, which is approximately equivalent, in tlio matter of numbers to the 2239 men and women of the United Kingdom admitted to the Order. When the Order was instituted, it was widely weloomcd as a new development very appropriate to the striking uprising of such a body of voluntary individual service as had never before been witnessed. It was generally felt that the value of the new honours would depend on the wisdom and discretion with'which they were conferred. The selection of New Zealand recipients of the honours appears to havo been judicious, and Christ-church people will recognise in the list earnest workers whose scrvieos havo long been appreciated. Thero does not appear to liavo been any good movement connectcd with the discharge of the country's duty in this var whose leaders and directors have oeon forgotten, and wo heartily congratulate all those who find their services recognised. There are, of course, many men and women whose faithful and devoted work would have made everyone glad to see their names in the hst wo print to-day, but there must be such omissions in & list of necessity limited.
