John Sncll and Robert Graham (Mi' Donnelly), charged with having broken the Second-hand Dealers' Act by purchasing from a person under 10 years of age, were each fined JLI and costs. BY-LAW BREACHES. For (vcling at night without lights, Arthur B. Ellis, E. I:al;ei\ Rooo.-t Hales, Robert Hav .lohu Telford. Colin Craig, George Banks, Harold Wigott, and Edward Yeoman were each fined ICs an 1 costs, John CI a wood and John Brown each os, the latter without costs, and Isabella Bain was convictcd and discharged. Leonard Fl:her, Ernest Archibald. Maurice Warren, and Jack Warm.'.n were each fined 40s ar.d costs for motoring at an excessive speed, while inisimilar offences James Stewart, X. Krodie McCallum, T>avid H. Edgar, Thomas H. Baillie, Charles S. Kcllaway, and Edward' Hammond were each fined SOs and costs. A charge against Geoffrey Royds (Mr Ward) of driving a car on the wrong sid.; of the street was dismissed.

Campbell Gray was fined 10s and costs for pillion r'ding. -lack Warman, who had driven n motor-cvclf without a certificate of ability, "was fined 10s and costs. for neglecting to close the exhaust oP his motor-car, Walter J. Scott had to pay 20s and costs, and a similar fine was inflicted on .John C. McDonald for having driven over a railway crossing at an excessive speed. James Watts was fined 20s and costs for allowing horses to wander in New Brighton. MAINTENANCE. Vivian Manson was charged with failing to provide for his wife and two children. The wife gave evidence to the effect, that accused was a heavy drinker, and had more than once threatened to murder her. An order for maintenance at the rate of £2 per week was made, with an order for separation and guardianship for the wife in respect to the two children. The defendant whs also prohibited. ASHBURTOX. (Before Messrs R. Hark and H. A. Lloyd, J.P.'.O C\ Leeming and T. Hansen were each lined 20s for exceeding tho speed limit. W. Francis was fin'ed !0< for riding a motor-cycle tr/> last. J. Deans. P. Jaine, J. McCnrmick. R. Mailks. and W ; J. Moore were each fined IPs for driving mctor-crrs too fast.
