BOROUGH COUNCILS.
SPREYDON.
A meeting of tho Spreydon Borough Council was held on Wednesday. Present—The Mayor (Mr W. H. Winsor), and Crs. E. O'Rourke, D. Williams, G. H. Rudd, A. E. Brewer, E. H. Clarke, A. Manhire. and. J. T. Diack. The Finance Committee reported that receipts amounted to £1480 17s 7d. Tho dr. balance at the bank was £619 3s 4d.— Adopted. The Works Committee recommended that the Council appoint delegates to a conference of public men, to be held on March 21st, for the purpose of forming an Advancement League for Canterbury; also that {he resolution from the Manawatu _ County Council regarding special race trains and motor traffic be supported by tho Council. The Mayor and Cr. Manhire were appointed delegates to the meeting for the formation of the Advancement League. The report wa6 adopted. Th© City Council wrote notifying that the Borough Council's share of the cost of altering the Heathoote Bridge at Colombo street, £75, was payable. It was decided to refer the' matter to the Finance Committee. The Mayor was appointed a member ot the deputation to wait on the Minister regarding the completion of the Arthur's Pass tunnel.
WOOLSTON. A meeting of the Woolfiton. Borough Council was held last night. Present—The j Mayor (Mr McGregor Wright), and Councillors 1. Champ, J. C. Hobson, L. Hart, D. Mctfac, T. Kadclifle, and G. H. Borrows^ The Finance Committed reported - that tho cr. bank balance was £276 7b Wd- j t iV P. Hound, who was leaving the district, had. tendered his resignation ae one. of the Sinking Fund Commissioners. The committee recommended the acceptance of the resignation with regret, and that the thanks, of the Council bo recorded to Mr Round for Ms past services. It also recommended that the Sinking Fund Commissioners be advised to invest aecumulatca funds in the War Loan. The report was adopted. , , The Electricity Committee reported that three houses had been wired. and additioM made in two, the total cost being £37 16s Id. The committee had again considered the Djlawe, and approved o£ wiremen's licenses being issued without fee. . ' . The report was adopted. . Cr. Champ moved that tho question of the allotment of grounds be left in the of the Reserve® Committee, with power to act. The motion was caraied. The manager of the Tramway Board wrote regarding the excessive speed of motor cyclists in the borough of Woolston, having in view a particularly aggravating ca«e. It was decided to put the matter in tho hands of the Council's solicitor, so that ho might take action tegaiding it-. , Tho Wools ton Fire Brigade challenged the Council to a billiard and caxd match.. It was decided to accept the challenge, and Cra White, Hart, Radcliffe, Mcßae, Hobson, and Burrows were appointed tho Councils champions. . , , , Cr. Hart moved that nothing be placed on the Council's agenda paper unless the communication concerning it was recoived before 12 o'clock on the day of the meeting of the Council, except by consent of the Council as a whole. The motion was carried. The foreman reported that he had. under consideration a scheme which, if carried out. ■would give the ratepayers a fortnightly service of rubbish collection.
