Messrs Sharland and Co., wholesale druggists, were to-dav proceeded against, under Section 83 of the Post and Telegraph Act, for causing to bo posted a dangerous packet, containing ljoz of bromine. The packet was handed in at Te Aro Post Office on February 2nd, and shortly after exploded, the fumes partially asphyxiating the postmaster and clerk, 6nd affecting others in the building. Tvlr Riddell, S.M., in imposing a nominal fine of -lUs and costs, took into consideration that no mishap had occurred in thirty years of business, ;md that the firm had considered it had taken sufficient care in packing the parcel.
