BRITAIN'S DRINK BILL.
PROTEST IN THE COMMONS. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.; (Reutor's Telegrams.) (Received March 14th, 1.30 a.m.) LONDON, March 13. In the House of Commons, during a discussion on national finance, Mr Leif Jones stated that tho 1917 drink bill wiis £259,000,000, and tho latest figures would probably reach £270,000,000. The expenditure, he said, was overburdening tho nation, and he urged an imitation of Canada and American restriction. Mr J. R. Clynes (Under-Secretary to the Ministry of Food stated that tho materials used in tho production of boer were greatly over-estimated and amounted only to 3 per centum of the nation's food.
