THE STATE COAL STRIKE.
HOPES OF A SETTLEMENT. (SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.' ) "WELLINGTON. March 13. The Government has taken no action yet regarding the absurd strike in the State coal mines on the "West Coast, the reason being that the trouble seems to be so small that it is hoped that it will be settled without the loss of too much time or coal. If the Government moves at all the action to be taken would have to le serious, because it is clear that the action of the men is contrary to +110 War Regulations. There is a possibility not quite cut of the minds of the people interested in coal and coal production that the strike is not without relation to the conscription of Mr P. C. Webb, and the demand recently made by the union for increases in pay.
