Progress of the War.

Apart from a further British advance in Palestine and a continuance of the hostile artillery activity on the West front, there is little news relating to actual military operations in to-day's cables. The details of the Palestine campaign given in Mr W. T. Massey's despatch indicate the difficulties under which General Allenby's advance is being carried out, and it is apparent that the Turks have ample opportunities of harassing the invaders, and delaj'ing their progress. The difficulties of transport will also delay the British advance, and until the easier country ahead is reached 110 operations of a spoctaeular nature can bo looked for. The question of Japanese intervention in Siberia is still engaging public interest to a great extent among the Allied nations, and in the Far East. It is reported to-day that tlio. Allies have asked Japan to take action, America raising no objection, but later messages cast a doubt on the accuracy of this import. Further details of the German raider's cruise and the sinking of the Wairuna and tho Matunga are given in messages recording the experiences of members of the crows of these vessels. A late message announces that a Zeppelin raider is over Yorkshire, but no other details aro given.
