CONGREGATIONAL UNION.
YESTERDAY'S PROCEEDINGS
The annual meeting of the Congregational Union was continued, in Trinity Church yesterday. Devotional service at 10 a.m. was conducted by the Rev. ,T. W. Potts (Timaru), aiid the business session began at 10.30, under tho chairmanship of tho Rev. A.' Hodge. Tho Rev. A. E. Hunt read tho London Missionary Society's report, which showed the serious depletion of tho society's staff, owing to the demands of the war. The financial position of the New Zealand Auxiliary -was encouraging, a substantial increase in. contributions being recorded. A letter from a New Zealand lady, one of the society's missionaries in Samoa, stated that the native church there had raised the sum of £9000 for 1917. After much discussion a motion was passed urging that a colleague should bo appointed to assist Miss Jean Begg at Samoa. A missionary meeting was held in the evening l , at which addresses wera delivered bv tho Rev. G. H» Eastman, of the Cook Islands, Miss Jean Begg, of Snnina, and Mr W. M. Trigg, a homo missioner Each of tho speakers gave a graphic description of the sphere of his or her labours, the nature of the work carried on, and the success which had attended it. The Union will bring its meetings to a close this evening. The Rev. F. Warner will deliver the annual sermon, the subject being "Creed of Creeds." At the close a Communion service' will be conducted by tlio. Rev. Harry Johnson. A united choir will pjovide tho music. - -
