A CRICKET POINT.
TO THE EDITOR OP "THE PRESS." Sir, —Your valuable paper this morning states that in the cricket match, Sydenham v. Linwood, on Saturday, the Sydenham team played Mcßeth, from Dunedin. This appears most questionable, as Mcßeth has been an absentee most of the season, and has also in the meantime represented Otago in the match against Canterbury. Although I hold no brief for Linwood, I am informed by 'he majority of cricketing enthusiasts that the action of Sydenham in this matter is not right. Of course someone « iil reply that Sydenham was equally entitled to play Mcßeth as well as Patrick, but Patrick's case is somewhat different, and he certainly has played a few games, and not only the final one. as in the case under review. I cricket has. such worthy old English traditions and is looked upon as file hall mark of sport, I think I am justified in entering this protest. I am. only too desirous of seeing the better team win on its merits, hence my reason for writing.—Yours, March 11th.
