CHRISTCHURCH PRESBYTERY.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Christchureh Presbytery met yesterday. Present —The Revs. A. D. Kirkland (.Moderator), Dr. J. Paterson, J. Watt, I' 1 . Rule, A. Laishley, J. O. Paterson, W. T. Todd, J. Johnston, D. P. Rodger, W. H. Howes, Geo. Lindsay, N. O. White, and C. Murray (clerk), Messrs J. Sutherland, R. J. "Corbett, J. C. Mitchell, James Raid, John Tulloch, and John Loo (elders), and.Messrs J. Lang, J. Tennent, and AY, J. {Sinclair (honle missionaries). . The Moderator expressed the pleasure of tho Presbytery in seeing the John Paterson amongst thorn agaiu nfter his recent illness. A welcome was extended to Mr Sinclair. the newlv-rtppbiiited homo missionary at Hornby. \ The" Rev. Geo. Lindsay reierrcd to his proposed retirement from the Southbridge charge. Ho had served long in tho church, and wished to retire at the end of April, although ho did not wish to relinquish teaching altogether. Mr J. Stony, an elder in the Southbridge- Church", said that there had always been the best feeling Mr Lindsav and members of his congregation. The congregation ha-1 expressod a wish that if Mr Lindsay's health would permit, he should continuo in the charge until the end of tho war. The Church would suffer a by his retirement. The Revs. A. T. Thompson and I>. D. Rodger and Mr J. P. W. Lee were appointed a committee to wait upon Mr Lindsay to ask him to continue in tha charge. • A letter was received drawing alten- ' tion to thfc sixth Dominion Conference of Sunday school icachers, which is to be held in this city during Easter. Ths Presbytery was asked to advertise the conference as widely a„s possible, and to adviso all 6'iuidcy" school teacher? to attend, while it was suggested that ministers should refer to the fixture on Easter Sunday. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the ministers to deal with individually.
A_ letter from Dr. Gibb regarding; the Christchurch Pn-sbytery's assessment of £506 for Home Missions was left in tlo hands of the Rev. J. Paterson for transmission to the congregation. The R.ev. Charles Murray reminded the Presbytery that the opening of St. Andrew's College would take place on March 23rd.
