ashburton cattle sale. The biggest yarding of cattle ever penned at the linwaid sale yards, and tiie second special cattle sale ot the season held by the Ashburton Branch of tne Mew Zealand farmers Co-opera-tive Association, was held yesterday, when considerably over 90U iiead were submitted to public auction in. the presence of a very large attendance ot buyers and others. The all-round quality yesterday was not so good as at the December sale, but there were other features which more than made up for this. Mr W. Nosworthy, M.r., sent in from his Mesopotamia property 204 head of particularly toe cattle, the majority of which had been bred, and all of them grazed on land which only a few years ago was thought to be only good enough to carry the hardy merino sheep. The feature of the sale, however, *v as close on 500 head of cattle sent m by Mr V. W. Wright the owner of the Laghmor estate homestead. laey comprised a lot of particularly prime fat bullocks, a lot of fat cotvs. anrl a remarkably good lot of ivell bred forward ™attle Bidding througho.it was most spirited. Other prices realised were: 1 two-year-old heifer at £3 15s, 52 yearling calves at £3 14s, 7 steers and heifers at £9, 7 steers and eight heifers, 10 to 18 months, at £5 6s, 32 three-year-old heifers at £8 7s 6d, a line of two to two and a-half-year-old heifers at £7 i 11 yearling steers and heifers at £5 4s, i 0 two-year-old Holstein-cross heifers at £8, 14 empty cows and springing heifers at £9 7s 6d, one cow (springing to calf) at £10, 2 cows inprofit at £8 10s and £16 respectively, 25 calves at £3 19s, 20 ; steers and heifers at £o 17s 6d, 2 heifers at £6, 2 steers at £6 16s, 4 empty cows at £17 13s, 6 steers and heifers at £5. 10 dairy cows at £8 ss.
